Matthew Carter (b. 1937) is a British type designer working in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He studied punchcutting under P. H. Raedisch at Enschedé. He was typographic advisor to Crosfield Electronics and then a staff designer at Linotype before cofounding Bitstream. In 1992 he founded Carter & Cone with Cherie Cone. He's received an AIGA Medal, TDC Medal, and a MacArthur Fellowship.
