Nicholas Benson (b. 1964) is a third generation stone carver and the owner of The John Stevens Shop in Newport, Rhode Island. He studied drawing and design at SUNY Purchase, and later studied calligraphy, type design, typography, and drawing at the Schule für Gestaltung Basel in Basel. He has designed carved inscriptions for the National Gallery of Art, Yale University, Brown University, and the National World War II Memorial, and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Memorial. His proprietary typefaces are used in the development and planning of his inscriptions. See a short film about him as part of his MacArthur Fellowship here.
