Otto Treumann (1919–2001) was born in Bavaria in a liberal Jewish family. In 1935 he came as an immigrant to the Netherlands and received his training at the Nieuwe Kunstschool in Amsterdam. During the German occupation of the Netherlands Treumann went into hiding and was involved in the forgery of identity cards and ration cards. After the war he worked for the Stedelijk Museum and the Dutch National Ballet.
